When DOTP started out a year ago, there were just a handful of people who ordered from week to week, so it was easy to get everyone up to date on how everything works. Now, we've got lots of new friends, and we add more every week, so I just thought we might need to do a little refresher course on how it all works. If you're not already on our weekly email list, you can get onto it by sending an email to email@example.com and asking to be added.
The basic idea is that we plan out a dinner menu each week, email it out to let you all know what we're making, then you let us know by return email if we should count you in. If you are new, your email should include your name, address, phone number and then your order (if you want dinner that week). Please be as specific as possible when you order to reduce the chances that we mix something up.
The order email usually goes out on Thursday evening, you have Friday to order, then we get busy shopping and cooking between Saturday and Tuesday. We deliver dinners on Tuesday afternoons, usually between 3 - 5:30 pm. Speaking of a schedule, we do take time off! We will be off during the whole month of August, and then we'll be back again for the Fall right after Labor Day. We take weeks off here and there, but we try to let you know in advance so that you can stock up if need be.
If you may not be at home at some point during the delivery window, you will leave a cooler with an ice pack or ice in it and we will leave your food inside. You can pay with either check (made out to DOTP) or cash, and if you are not going to be home, you can leave your payment in an envelope in or under the cooler. People do (always) forget to leave out money, and that's no big deal at all - we just tack it onto your account and try to keep track of it until the next time you order. If you forget to leave out a cooler, we will bring your dinner back to the kitchen where you can come get it later or the following day. We figure that we will be as nice as we possibly can be since there will be a time when we forget your dessert or are late bringing your dinner or give you a veggie meal instead of meat, etc, etc, etc! It's all a very wild, seat-of-the-pants operation, so things are bound to happen.
If you live outside of central Winston-Salem, we may not be able to deliver to you, but you are welcome to come pick up your order from us at Sociale Gourmet, which is located on Knollwood in the Nobles shopping center. If you are not sure if you are in the delivery area, we can let you know if you email us your address. Sometimes if there are several people in one neighborhood, we'll do a delivery to that area.
Every week we try to offer one main meal that should serve a family of 4-6, depending on how much your family eats. We make all of our dinners by hand, and we use as much organic and locally grown food as we can. While we can't promise that our dinners are necessarily low-fat, we do promise that they are wholesome, balanced meals that we would (and do!) serve to our own families. We also always offer a vegetarian version of the meal, and then a kids' meal in case you have one or two picky eaters. The kids' meal would be enough for 1-2 kids, again, depending on how much they eat. We also offer a dessert each week.
Each week we prepare a "Get You Through the Week" (GYTTW) meal, that is frozen. We try to come up with recipes that are sort of a one-pot/pan meal, so that you could just throw it in the oven and onto the table and have an easy family supper. You are welcome to order the GYTTW meal without ordering the main meal, but you may need to pick that up since we have a very limited delivery window and are rushing around town trying to make sure that the fresh dinners are at people's homes in time for dinner!
We love to hear feedback about our dinners - good and bad - since it helps us plan great menus. If you have a suggestions for a meal you'd like, let us know - we definitely get in ruts and can't think of anything good, so we love fresh inspiration!
People often want to "send" a meal to a friend for a new baby or a family illness, etc. We are happy to help with that! You may send a meal or a gift certificate - people seem equally grateful for both. Either way, just let us know what you want and we can work it out.
I can't really think of anything else to mention, except that we really appreciate all of our customers - new and old. We love seeing you and your porches, and we are looking forward to another great year of DOTP!
